Dear Parent/Guardian,
We are writing to update you regarding the latest positive COVID-19 cases at West Bloomfield Middle School. These cases will remain out of school according to the Oakland County Health Division COVID19 Isolation Guidelines. Please see the chart below regarding positive student COVID cases that were in attendance at school during the 48-hour time period in which they could have potentially spread COVID. Per the health department recommendations, letters are only drafted for those positive cases which create additional exposures within our buildings. For the complete list of COVID-19 related positive and probable cases, please visit www.wbsd.org/covid-19 and review our COVID-19 dashboard. There you will find a week by week breakdown of all of the cases in the West Bloomfield School District.

COVID- 19 is a contagious viral illness that spreads in the air through coughing, sneezing, and talking. Symptoms include fever, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, and diarrhea. People who are not up-to-date on COVID19 vaccination, those who are immunocompromised, and people with certain health conditions are at increased risk for severe disease and hospitalization.
As a reminder, based on Oakland County Health Department Guidelines, we are no longer conducting contact tracing within the school. We will continue to rely on our layers of prevention strategies, including masks, social distancing (when possible), and reminders of hand washing.
Please help us prevent the spread of COVID by watching your child for any symptoms of COVID-19 and keep them home if symptoms arise. If your child does develop symptoms, please have your child tested for COVID-19. If your child tests positive, please inform the school immediately. Keep your child at home for at least 5 days after the start of symptoms, they are fever-free without fever reducing medication, and symptoms have resolved. If you or anyone in your household has COVID-19 symptoms, please contact your health professional or Nurse on Call at (800) 848-5533 and consider making arrangements to have that individual tested.
We highly encourage all individuals 5 years of age or older to get vaccinated as soon as possible. This extra mitigation strategy helps ensure a safer learning and working environment for all of our students, staff and families. Please continue to follow all COVID-19 health and safety recommendations from the Oakland County Health Division (OCHD) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) whether you are vaccinated or not:
-
Cleaning your hands often, either with soap and water for 20 seconds or a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.
-
Avoiding close contact with people who are sick.
-
Putting physical distance between yourself and other people.
-
Covering your mouth and nose with a cloth face covering when around others.
-
Cleaning and disinfecting frequently-touched objects and surfaces daily.
For additional information regarding COVID-19, please visit the Oakland County Health
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
