Scotch Elementary named National Showcase School

The West Bloomfield School District is proud to announce that Scotch Elementary has been named a Capturing Kids’ Hearts National Showcase School for the 2018-19 school year by the Flippen Group. This is the second consecutive year that Scotch Elementary has received this distinction.

Four years ago, Scotch Elementary began an initiative to transform the campus into an emotionally safe and relationally connected place for students, staff, and parents to come together with a love for learning. Capturing Kids’ Hearts is a process that builds and strengthens relationships with students. This process provides a consistent framework throughout the school where all teachers and students feel a connection with one another, creating a sense of family.

In order to fully embrace this culture, Scotch Elementary staff members are trained in the  Capturing Kids’ Hearts philosophy and methods and as a result, the school boasts one of the largest CKH Process Champions Teams in the state of Michigan. The Process Champions Team is made up of teacher leaders who help guide our school to develop new and innovative ways to influence and inspire our students and staff.

James Scrivo, Scotch Elementary principal, said, “This process hasn’t just changed our school, it has changed our lives. Capturing Kids’ Hearts teaches our students how to be reflective and caring community members. In the end as a principal and a father, I think that's what all of us want from our schools.”
