Students involved in the Abbott Middle School leadership class recently held a canned food drive to benefit local food pantries in Oakland County. Students decorated classroom doors and encouraged their fellow classmates to participate in the drive. Students collected the donations from each day from each classroom. The students then sorted and organized the items to make the donation process simpler.
The group set a goal of 4,000 donated items and surpassed that goal by bringing in over 6,400 donations!
Jo-Anne Scheloske, Abbott Middle School leadership teacher said, "I am proud to say we exceeded our goal with a total of 6,403 items. These items are donated to Food Pantry's in Oakland County for local families. We will also be making a donation to the United We Walk program. It is a really great feeling when you see the look on people's faces when they come to pick up our donations or when I drop off donations. People are genuinely filled with gratitude because of Abbott's Can Food Drive. I am sincerely thankful to our staff, students, & families who were able to participate in this community service project."
