Dear West Bloomfield Families:
As I am sure you are now aware, Governor Whitmer issued an Executive Order today with the directive for K-12 public school buildings to close for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year. This order extends our current school building closure from now through June 2020.
The West Bloomfield School District fully supports Governor Whitmer in her decision to do what is best for all Michiganders. While this momentous decision comes as a disappointment to our students, staff and families, we must do what is best to protect the safety of everyone in our community during these uncertain times.
As we have for the past two weeks, the West Bloomfield School District will continue, during this unprecedented time, to provide instructional and social emotional support to each of our students through our Cloud Learning Initiative. Everyone on Team WB remains focused on doing what is best for kids day in and day out.
What does this mean for our district?
As part of today’s Executive Order, school districts are to provide some form of remote learning opportunity for students. In West Bloomfield, we have been leading the way on this front. Our carefully cultivated Cloud Learning Initiative will allow us to continue instruction for our mission to prepare our students to be their best IN and FOR the world.
Our Teaching and Learning team has been working closely with classroom teachers at all levels to put together lesson plans in the event of our building closure extending for any period of time. Now that we know we will not be returning to school for in person instruction, our dedicated staff members can continue the development of new and innovative Cloud Learning lessons.
For more information on our Cloud Learning Initiative, visit wbsd.org/cloudlearning.
We will continue to offer our Meal Service program to all children 18 years old and younger in an effort to support families. We recently shifted our Meal Service distribution plan to three days per week with families still receiving seven days worth of meals per child.
For more information on our Meal Service program and to place preorders for the week, visit wbsd.org/mealservice.
Even with today’s Executive Order, there are still a number of unknowns associated with this school year and beyond during these unprecedented times. Rest assured, we will be working closely with the Michigan Department of Education and Oakland Schools to establish a clear picture of what this means for our students.
Please reach out to your student’s teacher, building administrator and myself with any questions you have going forward. We will work tirelessly to find solutions to any and all challenges we face in the future.
Thanks for ALL you have done and continue to do to support your learners at home. Take care of yourselves and each other.
Stay Home - Stay Safe - Save Lives
