Welcome to the Abbott Art website. This is my ninth year teaching in West Bloomfield Schools and my 15th year teaching art. I have taught foundations, metals and AP art WBHS, art and computer graphics at Abbott and OLMS, and elementary art at Scotch, Doherty, Gretchko and Ealy. I also teach youth and adult classes at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center. I offer college courses to high school students at WBHS through Kendall College of Art and Design. All three of my children went to school in WB.
Being a life long learner there has not been one year since high school that I have not taken courses. I studied painting, drawing and photography at CCS, and The School of the Art Institute of Chicago for a BFA; painting, photography, video, and conceptual art at UCLA for a MFA "GO BRUINS"; ceramics at Peralta Community College; web design and metals at OCC, teacher training and sociology at Madonna University; graphic design at Schoolcraft College and printmaking at the BBAC.
Before teaching I owned a jewelry design business and I sold my jewelry at major retailers such a Barneys, Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom. I currently work mostly in photography, printmaking, and installations. I enjoy exhibiting my work at local and international shows. Being a professional artist outside the classroom feeds my need to create and inspires my teaching.
Every student benefits from a visual arts education. Everything we do, everything we see has a visual component to it. Our visual culture is vast and overwhelming at times. Now more than ever in history. navigating good design, communicating ideas, and understanding cultural differences is extremely essential in our creatively demanding world.
"Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.", Pablo Picasso.
