I have been a West Bloomfield Elementary teacher for 20+years in several different capacities. I spent the first 10 years of my career as a teacher in the north end of the district primarily at Roosevelt and the next 10 at Doherty. The 2013-14 School year was my first year as a Sheiko Teacher in the new grade 3-5 building. I have an extensive background as a teacher for students with learning differences, challenges and needs both in special and general education. I was trained in Reading Recovery during the 2008-09 school year and have a special passion for teaching reading to all learners. I spent three years as a Reading Consultant at Doherty and Sheiko. For the 2014-15 school year, I am heading back to the classroom as a Resource Room Teacher for students in grades 3-5.
I have a lot of other interest outside of Education. I am a mentor, coach and athlete. I volunteer my time at the Boys and Girls Club of South Oakland County as a coach and mentor through a "Run Club". This work helps children see a difference in their own lives through setting individual goals, believing in themselves and working hard while having fun. I enjoy this work immensely because of the growth that the children make through physical fitness and mentorship but also because I love leading a healthy and active life that involves running. I have done 5 major marathons in the last 5 years. Chicago, Boston, Chicago, Boston and New York City. I continue to challenge myself at other distances and am always training for a local 5k, 10K and Half-Marathon.
Some of my others passions are cooking, reading, running, friends and family and walking my golden retriever. I am a mother to two teenage boys who keep me very busy with their lives. I have also been married for almost 20 years to John. My family is very active and we enjoy skiing and beach vacations most of all.
