Mrs. Laura Sherwood

My name is Laura Shewood and I am a special education teacher at Doherty Elementary School. I have been teaching in the West Bloomfield School District for 20 years. I started at Doherty, teaching 2nd grade. I then taught 3rd grade for 8 years and 5th grade for a year.

In 2009, I began my career as a special education teacher in the resource room at Ealy Elementary. I taught there until it closed, and then got to come back to my first home-Doherty, where I continue to teach in the resource room.

I received my undergraduate teaching degree from Eastern Michigan University and received my master's degree in special education with a learning disabilities endorsement from Oakland University.

I have a wonderful family-my husband, 3 children, (2 sons and a daughter), 2 dogs and a cat. We love to travel and spend time together whenever we can. We enjoy skiing, hiking, being at the beach and taking walks with the dogs.

I love teaching and helping students learn, succeed and do their best!
