Ms. Mary Lou Hurych

Ms. Hurych has been teaching in West Bloomfield for many years. In a previous life, she graduated from Wayne State University with a major in Physical Education. While at Wayne State , Ms. Hurych was a Tartar who played intercollegiate field hockey, basketball, tennis (captain), and softball (captain). Upon graduating, Ms. Hurych was hired into the West Bloomfield School District where she taught physical education first at Abbott Middle School and then at Orchard Lake Middle School. Ms. Hurych completed her masters degree in Educational Leadership at Wayne State and also completed her math endorsement for grades 6-12. Since then Ms. Hurych has been teaching math at Orchard Lake Middle School where she became an expert with Core Plus then CPM mathematics. She coached high school and middle school sports for over 30 years including track and field, girls basketball, girls volleyball, and boys basketball. In 2013 Ms. Hurych was once again assigned to teach physical education. When asked how she felt about being back in the gym she was heard to reply,"What goes around, comes around." For 2017-2018 yet another twist in the saga. Ms. Hurych was assigned to West Bloomfield high school for Algebra I and Geometry in the morning. After those classes, she quickly returned to Orchard Lake Middle School for three 8th grade math classes. Ms. Hurych had hoped to be assigned full time to the high school for 2018-2019 but alas no. It appears that Ms. Hurych will finish her career in the gym she left Abbott for 35 years ago.
