Mr. Avery is a graduate of Rochester Adams High School, The University of Toledo, and Wayne State University. While at the University of Toledo he earned a spot on the Dean's List and President's list for every term in which he was enrolled, graduated Summa Cum Lade, and was named the Outstanding Graduate from the College of Education for 1996. In addition to his extensive academic back ground, he participated in both high school and collegiate athletics. The highlight of his athletic career came when his University of Toledo football team won the Mid-American and Las Vegas Bowl Championships in 1995.
Mr. Avery was hired immediately after concluding his academic program at the University of Toledo in 1997. At that time he began teaching Economics and World History. He also began his coaching career as the Varsity Defensive Line Coach. As his career has progressed, Mr. Avery has enjoyed having the opportunity to teach a wide range of subjects such as Civics, Michigan History, and AP Psychology. Most recently, Mr. Avery has assumed responsibilities as a Co-Social Studies Department Chair and Head Middle School Football Coach, and Head Lacrosse Coach.
When not working, Mr. Avery enjoys time with his beautiful wife, Heidi, and children, Cooper and Gwen. He also enjoys spending time working out, doing home improvements, woodworking, and vacationing in Northern Michigan.
Mr. Avery feels very blessed to have had the opportunity to work at West Bloomfield High School. He believes that he plays a critical role in the development of his students and looks forward to many more years of excellence in education!
