Ms. Fisher Ninan
Born and raised in Muskegon, I am new to the East side of the state (and miss the West side terribly). I'm a Dutch girl with deep Calvinist roots in West Michigan, where my family has lived since they came to this country five and six generations ago. We are a small and tight knit community, which is how there are so many fully Dutch kids running around there to this day. I attended my family's traditional school, Muskegon Christian School (formerly the Hartford Street School) as a fourth generation student, and graduated from Western Michigan Christian High School.
I began my post-secondary career (there's a reason I call it a career) at Muskegon Community College, where my first two years went fairly smoothly. I then started at Grand Valley but quickly discovered this was not the college for me. I took a year off and then decided to move to be near my sister and her new babies in the Atlanta area. I attended Piedmont College up in the hills of NE Georgia and finished my first degree, a BA in English with a History minor. This did not lead to any majoy career prospects, to no one's surprise. But as my dad always said, I went to college to get an education, not a job. After a few years more of my waitressing career, I decided to go back to school to get my teaching certificate. I found a program at Baker college that would accept my previous credits and give me almost a full year of full time student teaching. I quit my job, took double time classes, and finished my post-BA teaching certificate in a year and a half. After working at an inner city high school that was closed by the state (Muskegon Heights), I started back to graduate school to earn my Master's in Library and Information Science. It took me a few years to finish, especially given my forced job searches during this time. In 2014, I graduated with an MLIS including a k-12 certification as a Library/Media Specialist.
2017 brought even more changes as I got married to my dear husband whose career was over here on the East side of the state and moved. I found this amazing position at WBSD and hope to stay for a very long time.
I love working with the younger students and helping them to develop as life-long readers. If you ever need to contact me, my email is best (given that I run two iCenters, here and at Sheiko).
