• Welcome to Sheiko Elementary! My name is Sonja James and I have the honor of being the principal here at Sheiko Elementary.  As a native Floridian, I am a proud graduate of Bethune Cookman University located in Daytona Beach, Florida. My teaching career started in Miami Dade County where I taught grades 2 - 5 as well as a teacher of the gifted and talented for 10 years. I later broaden my educational experience and moved into the international arena of education as a teacher at the American International School located in Kingston, Jamaica.  There I had the opportunity to work with diplomatic students from a variety of countries.

As the principal here at Sheiko, it brings me great pleasure and joy greeting and engaging with our students, staff and community daily. It is my goal to instill and ensure that every student at Sheiko Elementary understands and believes that he/she has the ability to be a “LEADER”.  I firmly believe that students must have a strong sense of self-confidence, learn to advocate for themselves, and have a positive educational experience in an environment where they feel safe and free to learn. I would not be able to achieve any of this without the talented and wonderful staff I have here at Sheiko. Collectively:  teachers, support staff, students and school community is what makes Sheiko a great place to learn and grow.

If you are a future Sheiko family and would like a building tour or additional information about our school and its programs, please contact me at sonja.james@wbsd.org.
