The West Bloomfield Clergy/Community Forum shared in the first luncheon of the fall on Thursday, October 19th at Abbott Middle School. Students from the Religious Diversity Journeys (RDJ) at Abbott presented a video https://detroitinter
faithcouncil.com/religious-div ersity-journeys-video/ to the group, and talked about how they learned fun and interesting facts on each of their journeys, spent time thinking about how the different religions compared to their own, and reflected on the misunderstandings and misconceptions they had about others and how much better they understood after their journey. Both Abbott and OLMS participate in RDJ, sending 30 students on journeys throughout the year. Last year 35 middle schools across 18 districts, public and private in Wayne and Oakland counties visited 18 sites, including Jewish, Hindu, Sikh, Christian and Jewish houses of worship, the Detroit Institute of Arts, and the Holocaust Memorial Center. The Clergy/Community Forum is a representation of our various faith traditions – Catholic, Muslim, Jewish, and Protestant. It’s an important connection with our various civic institutions – the West Bloomfield Township, Police Department, Fire Department, Public Library, WB Parks, Cable Communications Commission, MLK365, Optimist Club, Rotary, our educational institutions – West Bloomfield School District, Bloomfield Hills School District, and Walled Lake School District, Frankel, St. Mary's and Mesivta.
The meetings take place on the first Thursday of each month at different locations with the exception of March when Purim falls on the first Thursday. The Clergy/Community Forum is an open group; any members of the community are welcome to attend. To be included on the mailing list for future meetings, please contact Pastor Brian William (firstname.lastname@example.org)
. Please feel free to pass along invitations to others.
