Roosevelt History

  • Did you know that Roosevelt School, built in 1920, is the oldest continuously operating school building in Oakland County? Last year, we celebrated Roosevelt's 95th Anniversary with a dedication of a commemorative bell tower to honor 95 years of education in Keego Harbor. The tower, designed and crafted by WBHS alumnus, Rob Laskey,  holds a 30" bell that some believe came from the original Keego Harbor School, based on old photos. This school was built on land donated by Joseph E. Sawyer and stood at the corner of Pridham and Orchard Lake Road from 1914-1963.  It was torn down and replaced by a gas station and the land has became home to several business over the following years.  The Keego Harbor School predated Roosevelt and provided overflow classrooms for the district, held community meetings  and served as the local library for a while.  The Keego School has a lasting legacy in the history of education at Roosevelt.  Thanks to the many people who donated to make this endeavor come alive (whose names are recognized below, as well as on the plaque mounted on the memorial bell tower).  Thank you for helping celebrate our rich history!
