Mrs. Kelly Lekas

Welcome to Scotch Elementary!!  My name is Kelly Lekas.  I have taught at Scotch for 28 years in the West Bloomfield District.  I spent 23 years in second grade and for the past 5 years I have been the Reading Consultant and Testing Coordinator.   I graduated from West Bloomfield High School, attended Michigan State University to receive my Bachelor of Arts in Education and Oakland University to receive my Master of Arts in Reading and Language Arts.  My husband, Nick, and I have been married for 24 years.  We have two children.  Nicholas attends Oakland University and Annetta is a senior at West Bloomfield High School.

Knowing that all students learn in different ways and at different rates, I am committed to meeting the needs of each child I work with.  I assess each child's academic growth and differentiate my instruction to meet his/her specific needs in reading.  Encouraging my students to learn how to learn and helping them enjoy learning, are two of my principal goals.  I create a warm, caring and nurturing environment.  It is full of opportunities to discover new things and learning activities to enrich their education.  It is important to me that children feel safe so that they are willing to take risks and to know that it is all right to make mistakes...that is how we learn!!
