Welcome Lakers to the Doherty Family!

Welcome! My name is Daniel Spitzley, and I am proud to serve as the principal of Doherty Elementary. This is my fifth year leading our school community, and each year I am inspired by the enthusiasm, creativity, and kindness of our students, staff, families, and community.

Before stepping into school leadership, I taught elementary school for nine years. Those years in the classroom shaped my belief that every child deserves a safe, supportive, and engaging place to learn and grow. I bring that same commitment to my role as principal each day.

I hold a leadership degree from Eastern Michigan University, and I am passionate about fostering a school culture where high expectations and strong relationships go hand in hand.

When I’m not at school, I enjoy spending time with my family, playing golf, and being on the water. These moments recharge me and remind me of the importance of balance and joy—values I hope to model for our students as well.

I look forward to continuing our work together to make Doherty a place where every student can thrive.
