2019-2025 Capturing Kids’ Hearts National Showcase School.

Doherty is recognized as a "Green Schools" by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy’s Environmental Education program. The Michigan Green Schools program aims to support and acknowledge the efforts of PreK-12 schools in promoting environmental stewardship and sustainability, including initiatives that protect the state's air, land, water and ecosystems.

Active and supportive PTO that puts money where it counts: into student learning and rich experiences.  This includes over $5,000 donated for quality reading materials for each classroom, access to home-school online learning experiences, and other upgrades for students and staff. Our amazing PTO also sponsors several family friendly events throughout the year! 

Actively supporting students with social-emotional learning through a wide variety of platforms, including: use of RULER SEL curriculum through morning announcements, school wide coping kits in every classroom to aide in emotional regulation, buddy benches on the playground, yoga opportunities, and Capturing Kids’ Hearts tools.

Our Doherty student council adopted many deserving families during the holiday times to give back and collect wishlist items from the families. Our school was able to gift 10 or more presents for each family plus gift cards to help make the holidays a little bit brighter for families in need.  In the spring, our student council team and school supported the Oakland Animal Rescue Shelter by donated many animal items and raise funds to purchase wish list items for the animal shelter.  Our student council continues to give back to our community with other community service projects throughout the school year.
