August 12, 2021
Dear West Bloomfield families,
It is my sincerest wish that you and your family members are remaining safe and enjoying your well deserved summer break. Taking this time to rest, recharge, and reconnect will make our next school year the best one yet! I also wanted to take this opportunity to update you on some recent developments as we prepare for the 2021-22 school year.
First, as you are aware, we will be offering five full days in-person teaching and learning for all grade levels starting with our first day of school on August 30. We’ve had extensive conversations pertaining to our instructional plans and COVID-19 mitigation measures going into the upcoming school year in preparation for August 30.
In support of our goal to offer face-to-face instruction, five full days a week, we have compiled guidance from the Oakland County Health Division (OCHD), Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) into our COVID-19 Mitigation Guidelines for the 2021-22 school year. These guidelines were reviewed by the Board of Education during their August 9 Study Session as well as members of our Administrative Council. The Board of Education will take action on these guidelines during the August 23 Regular Meeting. These guidelines are linked below:
These plans reflect the best guidance and recommendations from our local, state and national health organizations as of August 2021. We will continue to monitor further recommendations and seek additional guidance from these entities as we look forward to the 2021-22 school year. We will continue to provide updates and communicate with you regarding updates to this plan including adjustments to our risk level as we look ahead to August 30 and the start of a new school year.
Following the Board of Education’s action on August 23, we will be consulting with OCHD officials to determine our district’s current risk status. If you have questions, concerns or praise you would like to share, please utilize the Talk to Us feature on our school district website.
Have a wonderful rest of your summer break. Please take care of yourselves and one another.
