Sinking Fund

The district continues to follow its roofing replacement cycle with work on 6,875 square feet of roof being replaced at Scotch Elementary.  This relatively small project will be completed over the summer of 2021 before school resumes in the fall. This project continues to protect the community’s investment in our school buildings.

Both the varsity baseball and varsity softball fields will see extensive renovations beginning June 1, which includes converting the surfaces of both fields into full synthetic turf.  The project is being managed by Foresite Design Inc., who is an industry leader in synthetic field design and construction. In addition, drainage in both practice fields will be installed which will allow the fields to properly drain for use in the typically wet spring weather in Michigan.  New fencing will be installed around both fields including reconfiguring the field dimensions and bullpen areas. As you can see from the design renderings, the graphic design layout was selected to highlight Laker Pride. This nearly $1.8 million dollar renovation is expected to be completed by  fall of 2020.

This project continues to protect the community’s investment in our school buildings.

Exterior wall panels near the roofline of the high school around the pool and main gym area have reached the end of their useful life and are being replaced this summer.  This project improves the weatherproofing of the building and continues to protect the community’s investment in our school buildings.

• Pre-Cast Panel Project Information

The parking lot and circular drive in front of the main entrance are being reconstructed in their entirety.  This is not a “top coat” but rather a reconstruction requiring the full removal of existing asphalt surfaces and digging down to a depth of 10” -14”, repacking the excavated areas with new limestone aggregate, and layers of new asphalt applied in sequence on top.  This project will improve safety and efficiency for cars, buses, and pedestrians entering and exiting the school grounds. In addition to the parking lot reconstruction, all parking lot lights will be converted to LED for improved performance and energy conservation.  A number of light poles that have reached the end of their useful life will also be completely replaced.

West Bloomfield High School Partial Roofing Replacement Budget $721,000: The roof covering the High School gymnasium and pool is at the end of its useful life. The project encompasses approximately 53,000 square feet of roof area. This project will protect the community’s investment in the school building and help preserve space that is utilized extensively by student-athletes and community members alike.

West Bloomfield High School Stadium Synthetic Turf and Track Replacement Budget $1.2 million: The current synthetic turf and running track surface that was originally installed in 2004 are at the end of their useful lives. The field surface will be installed by industry-leader AstroTurf Corporation. The field is designed based on the latest safety standards and enhancements so that our student-athletes will be ensured of an excellent playing surface that will be shock absorbent in order to minimize the risk of injuries for football, soccer, and lacrosse. An under-layer shock absorbing pad was installed, at additional expense, to ensure that the field is among the safest in any stadium. The graphic design layout was selected to highlight Laker Pride.

The track surface was installed by Star-Trac Enterprise, a company known for their expertise and excellence in such installations. The former track was actually demolished, dug out and fully reconstructed as part of the project; which goes substantially beyond simply resurfacing the top layer. The school district was able to use both the former synthetic turf and running track for 14 seasons. With continued diligent maintenance efforts, it is expected that there will be a similar useful life for the new products.
