Fall 2018 Information:
Dear Abbott Eagles Families,
7th & 8th Grade Football
Welcome to another year of winning Eagles football. I am sharing some very important information that will help us get the season going as effectively as possible. Please note ALL of the following requirements for joining the team and starting practice.
Football is a NO CUT sport. As long as you regularly attend practice and put in the proper effort at improving, you are on the team.
To participate in ANY sport for West Bloomfield, ALL of the following must be completed before you can participate in ANY way, including attending practice:
- A current physical (after April 15, 2018) MUST be submitted.
- You MUST have signed up on the district athletics website.
- You MUST have submitted your pay to participate fee. This can be done electronically, on the athletics website, or in person at the athletic office, at WBHS. Coaches WILL not accept pay to participate funds.
YOU WILL NOT be allowed to board the bus from Abbott to the high school unless these mandatory items are accounted for.
Practice begins Wednesday, September 5. A shuttle will take athletes from Abbott to the high school each day, but they must be picked up at WBHS at 5:30.
MHSAA guidelines stipulate that football players must complete a minimum of three non-contact conditioning days before they can be issued equipment and engage in contact practices. The longer it takes to get all paperwork in, the longer athletes will have to wait for equipment and full contact football. This is NON-NEGOTIABLE.
ALL practices will be at WBHS from 3:30 until 5:30 daily. A calendar with practice cancellations (ex. Homecoming) and game locations and times will be provided the first week of practice at a brief parent meeting.
Coaches Kremer & Brown
PS- We will provide all required equipment and a lock/locker (once equipment is distributed). Athletes are expected to provide their own:
- Groin protection
- Optional equipment: Gloves, girdle, etc. (NO visors)
- Physical- All players need to get a physical and complete both sides of the physical form. The link to the online physical form is below. This should be turned in to me on the first day of practice:
- Medical History and Treatment Permission form - completed by parents.
- Pay to Participate. The fee for football is $200. This can be paid either in person at the high school athletic office or online. If paying in person, please make checks out to West Bloomfield Schools. If paying online, please follow the link below to register for payment:

We are excited to have your child run Cross Country for Abbott! As coaches, we are passionate runners ourselves and look forward to sharing our love of the sport with each and every child. You are responsible to pick-up your runner from each practice and meet on time. Transportation is only provided to the events. Please contact us if you can help at our 3 home-meets, they takes 5 volunteers. It it just 1 hour of your time. Most jobs just involve pointing runners in the correct direction. Our home meets take place at Marshbank Park on Hiller Road.
As we have done in the past, runners are to wear their own black running shorts. Ladies, please no spandex.
Uniform tops must be purchased by Tuesday, September 11th. The price is $25. Please send in cash. They are lightweight, mesh tech-t’s. Your child may keep the top. If your 7th 8th grader still has their uniform from last year, they may use that one. During races, shirts must be tucked in, no jewelry of any kind, including no earrings! Watches are allowed.
Runners must have supportive running shoes. Please no NIKE frees, no minimalist shoes, no lightweight foam, tennis or court shoes. Spikes are not used in our middle school league. We recommend the New Balance or ASICS line of shoes.
PARENTS: To run in our first meet, students must pay-to-participate on-line at www.westbloomfieldathletics.com, print and complete both sides of the Blue physical card dated after 4/15/2018. All paperwork is due by the start of practice on Tuesday September 11th or your child will not be able to participate in the first practice.
ATTENDANCE AT EACH MEET IS MANDATORY
Our first meet is 4:00 Thursday, September 20th at Marshbank Park in West Bloomfield. Races start promptly and can be as short as 10 minutes, so give yourself time to park and walk to the start line. Courses in middle school are between 1.5 and 2 miles long-each school is different.
MEET PICK-UP TIMES VARY, BUT WE ARE USUALLY DONE BY 5:00. COUNTIES AND INVITATIONALS RUN LONGER, USUALLY 6 PM.
Practices go until 4:00 each day. We often train on the WB-trail. We try to have everyone back to Abbott by 4:00 pm, but occasionally we have a few runners off their usual pace which makes us get back a few minutes later. DO NOT PANIC if we are occasionally late. We will send a REMIND notice if this occurs.
SNACKS/DRINKS: 2 days before all meets, we will ask runners to volunteer to bring either a snack or drink for the team. We just ask each runner to volunteer once.
Please sign up to our Cross Country REMIND account by texting: @abbottcc to 81010.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call/email us!

Spring 2019 Season
Dear Abbott Families,
I would like to take this opportunity to let you know that I will be the Abbott Middle School contact for the Spring 2019 Track and Field season. Ms.Wegrzynowicz and I will be coaching the team together with other staff members from OLMS and WBHS.
Track is a no-cut sport, however, we are limited to taking the first 100 students from Abbott that complete all the required paperwork and Pay to Participate. The required forms are the Medical History/Physical Form (if your child has already participated in a sport this year, they do not need another physical), the Treatment Permission Form (this is required for every season), the Pay to Participate Form, the Middle School Athletic Guidelines Form, theWB Middle School Track and Field Form, the Abbott Middle School Track Information Sheet.
I will start accepting completed paperwork for 7th and 8th Graders in March. At the end of March, if there are any remaining spots, 6th graders will be eligible to turn in their paperwork to secure a spot on the team. Our introductory informational meeting and practice will be held in March. Regular practices at WBHS will begin after spring break.
Please feel free to contact either Ms. Wegrzynowicz or me with any questions or concerns you may have.
Mrs. Patti McCormick

We are sailors who started a competitive varsity sailing team in the fall of 2015. There are more than 82 high school teams in Michigan and we are currently ranked 13th. This program develops a competitive high school team through instruction in racing techniques and varsity/junior varsity interscholastic competitions with other high schools. We are recruiting new sailors to join our team to compete in fall and spring seasons. We welcome and encourage 7th and 8th graders who can practice and compete at Tier 3 events. We want to bring a fun racing experience to our high school and middle schools. Join us and travel around the state, learn how to race, and compete against other high schools.
High School Sailing Outline
No experience necessary, just a willingness to learn new skills
Varsity vs. Junior Varsity
JV team is for new sailors with little to no experience.

Must have a good understanding of the rules and knowledge of Sailing
Attitude and behavior
Year round sport: fall (individual racing) / spring (team racing).

Student needs to have achieved a GPA of a 1.7 for the last grading period while passing 5 out of 7 classes.
Need strength, strategy and sense of working together to compete and win!
How High School Sailing Works
Practices weekly (drills on the water, learning boat handling, race rules, running races)
Two sailors sail in a boat at a time
We train at Pontiac Yacht Club (PYC) in Keego Harbor (http://www.pyc54.org )
Practices 3 times a week 3:45 to 6:30/7:00. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.
All riders currently in 5th - 8th grade are invited to join as riders for the team. Students who aren't sure about riding in a competition, may join the team as Grooms. Grooms may practice with us and pay the barn for any practices they attend. They will spend some time in the saddle, but also some time learning how to best help the team at competitions.
Please, feel free to share this information with others who may be interested in the Equestrian Team. If they are interested in the team, please have them send the information below to me.
