Welcome! My name is Melody Boone and I teach kindergarten at Doherty Elementary School! This is my first year teaching in West Bloomfield Schools and I am very excited!
Credentials: I graduated from Western Michigan University in 2013 with a degree in Elementary Education, along with an Early Childhood Endorsement. I have completed internships in both preschool and second grade. I spent the last three years teaching kindergarten at Bradford Academy in Southfield, MI.
Family: I love spending time with my big family. I recently just got engaged so I look forward to planning my wedding with my Fiancé , Eric!
Fun Fact: I have a TWIN sister!
Interests: In my spare time I enjoy painting, crafting, volleyball, bowling, and traveling. I love arts and crafts! I even have a painting studio in my basement that I call my "Kinder Cave".
Teaching Philosophy: I absolutely love teaching and have a passion for the young learner. Kindergarten is a big year for learning and growing. The word kindergarten means “child’s garden.” It is simply amazing to watch kindergarten students blossom into big learners and future first graders.
We work with and learn about letters, numbers, sight words, stories, blocks, play-doh, paint, and so much more! Kindergarten is the year to use your imagination and get creative!
The key ingredient to teaching the young learner is simply having FUN. Learning is fun and learning is messy! I believe kids learn through active engagement and hands-on activities. I engage students by providing an atmosphere where kids feel that they can think, wonder, and explore. Overall, my teaching style and how I engage students is easy: When I love teaching, my students love learning!
Social Media: Follow my kindergarten classroom on social media!
Contact: Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, comments, or concerns. My door is always open!
